Online Reputations attacked from Under the Radar™

If you have experienced a reduction in sales, there is a chance this might be due to the current economic climate, or to the fact that your business marketing strategy has not been updated for some time to reflect the global economic changes of the past few years.

Or perhaps a reason for the downturn in business is a combination of the above two factors together with a third one, an online reputation issue. Is it possible that your business reputation is being damaged without you even knowing about it?

Just because YOU searched for your business name on Google and could find nothing negative, does not mean that your customers and leads see the same thing.

They might carry out a search from a different geographical location where they will view different results to the ones Google suggested to you. They might also use a different search engine to carry out their search such as Yahoo or Bing. There might also be a discussion on a social networking site or a review site which is relevant to your business, but which did not appear during the internet search that you conducted.

Often, a thorough, professional internet search can reveal some serious internet reputation issues which cannot be detected by the naked eye. For example, during a thorough, detailed internet search, we conducted between 20-30 different searches in relation to a single search term, but within different timelines and around a variety of geographical locations. This type of internet search can alert you to what people in different parts of the country see when they search for your business, but more importantly it reveals historic postings, which might not at present appear on the first pages of the search engines.

Some of these posts are very old, perhaps they were first published on the internet 10-15 years ago. So why should you be bothered with the presence of historic postings on the internet, postings which you are told no one is likely to see anyway?
